Controlled flow.
Built for intention, not speed.

UFO Filter Type A was developed with a clear philosophy: extraction should be guided, not rushed. Unlike fast-flowing papers that encourage finer grinding to slow the brew, Type A provides a measured, medium flow rate that supports coarser grind settings and steadier extraction.

This approach is particularly beneficial for modern, heavily processed coffees such as anaerobic naturals, yeast-inoculated lots, and co-ferment swhich tend to have higher solubility. Grinding too fine with these coffees can easily lead to over-extraction. By pairing a coarser grind with Type A’s controlled flow, you preserve sweetness and clarity while avoiding harshness.

The filter also performs beautifully with low-agitation pouring methods. When used with tools like Melodrip or with a low, gentle pour, fines migration is reduced, leading to a clean and stable drawdown.

The included base recipe offers a reliable starting point, emphasizing low spout height and consistent circular pours to maintain balance throughout the brew.

Why We Chose This

We chose Type A because it supports thoughtful brewing, especially for expressive, process-driven coffees that benefit from restraint. A filter designed for clarity through control.
